Long cold winter!

Before Cleaning
Before Cleaning
I was hoping to have the engine completely finished by now, but unforeseen problems have slowed me down.  After purchasing a 390 (with transmission attached) last month, I made a decision.  The new motor was actually in good shape and looked to have a recent rebuild.  The only problem was the motor was rebuilt for a truck with a low compression, high torque cam and pistons.  This means it is low on the horsepower and high on the power.  Instead of using this block (which would be fine) I have decided to use my 428 block as my base.  The more I thought about it, the more I wanted to have the horsepower.  I have the block ready with pistons, cam, and crank.  I also took the heads off the new motor.  They are D2TEAA heads and measure out for a 390.
I did manage to get them cleaned up and rebuilt.  The new pistons, seals and springs are installed.  I also cleaned up and restored my rockers.
So, with my new hydraulic lifters soaking for a pre-load, I am ready to re-assemble the engine.  My plan is to have the motor completed within a week.  The only thing holding me up is the intake manifold.  It is clean and the rivets are drilled.  I just need to tap the rivet holes and it is ready.

As far as the truck motor, old heads, 2bbl carburetor, and 6c transmission, they are up for sale to make room for some much-needed space in the garage.
